Parus major - Great Tit

Parus major - Great Tit

The Great Tit is slightly larger than the blue tit and has a long black "bib" under the chin then down the belly and is less blue and yellow, appearing more black/gey and white. Just like the Blue Tit the Great Tit visits all the feeders in the garden.

As well as the seeds and suet from our bird feeders the Great Tit also likes to eat spiders, insects along with beech and hazle nuts. Like the blue tit it is a destroyer of fruit buds and also attacked the silver bottle tops.

It likes any hole for its nest, and normally lays 6-7 eggs but 10-15 have sometimes recorded. The eggs are white with a few to lots of reddish spots and differ from other tits only in their size.
