Coenagrion pulchellum (Azure Damselfly)


The colouring of the female varies quite a lot but the male is a striking blue. approximate length is 30mm. The female lays her eggs on aquatic plant stems. After hatching the nymphs stay underwater for a year before emerging.

There are several similar species all of which can be identified by the black marks on the abdomen and the shape on the top of the thorax.
